Welcome to the FON Blog

Hi Fon!

My name is Ladan, the Founder of Friends of Normie. Welcome to our blog! We wanted to create this blog as a way to answer FAQs and continue to build our community.

For this first blog, I wanted to give an introduction to who we are and how all of this got started.

In 2020 during the pandemic, I started rescuing cats I would find on the streets and adopt them out to people I knew. I quickly ran out of those people, and wanted a way to find new adopters. Someone led me to a Facebook group, which is where I met Marla. Marla was a seasoned rescuer who had been TNRing cats for 25 years. She quickly took me under her wing and it was off to the races.

For the next 2 years, I talked to her pretty much all day everyday about which cats we had and who was getting adopted, all the while learning by watching her in action. Without Marla, there would be no Friends of Normie cat rescue.

In 2022, Marla told me she was moving to Florida, which left me alone. I had no idea how to do this by myself but started reaching out to friends, previous adopters, and others to see if they could help with fostering. One thing led to another, and by word of mouth we built a massive foster network. Without fosters, there could be no operation. We had no facility and no funding, but were starting to do almost triple the volume of other rescues and shelters in our area.

It proved yet again that if your heart and intentions are in the right place, you can make a serious change without all the bells and whistles.
As of today, we have rescued, rehabbed, and adopted out almost 4 thousand cats from the streets and placed them into forever homes. This is something I am extremely proud of, and it could only have been possible because of the foster team and support FON has. In order to save one cat, it takes someone advocating for them on the streets, trapping them, transporting, a foster to agree to take them in, trips to the vet, hours of networking them online, and finally, someone to adopt them.
Cat rescue CANNOT be done alone. It takes a team of people to save these animals and my goal for FON is to continue growing that team, and hopefully growing outside Southern California.
In late 2022, I started the product brand Friends of Normie LLC. As I was growing as a rescuer, I was quickly learning how harmful some products on the market were. Not only were they not cute to have in your house, but there were so many that contained plastics, staples, glue, loose string, and choking hazards that can and do kill cats.

I wanted to create the product brand for two reasons:

1. To create a brand that prioritized cat safety, beauty for the owners, and sustainability for the planet.

2. To grow a business that would dedicate a large amount of profits back to the rescue, so the rescue could sustain itself without depending on grants or donations

Our products are made for cats and made by cat rescuers. It's about time there was a cat brand on the market who actually gives back to the animals they profit from.

We are always looking to grow our community, and save more cats. If you want to volunteer in any capacity, there is room for you here.

I am so proud of what we have built so far, and can't wait to see where it goes. Thank you for being on the journey with us. We couldn’t do it without the FON community!

Much Love,
